This year with home heating prices at record highs, many residents of New England are having to make a choice; heat or eat. Some have called it a quiet storm but for social workers in northern states there is nothing quiet about it. A large percentage of the elderly and those living on fixed incomes are afraid that they will not be able to afford to heat their homes.
The United Way in some areas of New England is working with local non-profits to provide additional funds to help the most vulnerable heat their homes. Check with the local chapter of the United Way for more information.
If you live in the Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire, you can donate money to the fapgap fund. The fapgap fund provides additional fuel fuel assistance benefits to populations most in need.
